KANSAS CITY, MO - A car accident in Kansas City early Tuesday morning left a driver hospitalized, reports WDAF.

Kansas City police said the driver of a Nissan Altima was headed south on 71 Highway when the incident took place at about 12:14 a.m.  The driver lost control of the car and crashed into the roadway's center median.  The car then went across all lanes of the highway, struck a concrete wall and came to rest at the 39th Street entrance ramp.

The driver, who was not identified, was critically injured and rushed to an area hospital.  No one else was in the car at the time and no other injuries were reported.

71 Highway was shut down for about two hours for the crash investigation.
