KANSAS CITY, MO - Police in Kansas City said a child was struck by a vehicle during a Fourth of July gathering on Monday night.
According to KCTV, the incident happened as the 11-year-old victim was lighting fireworks in the street in the area of Prospect Avenue near East 85th Street at about 11:30 p.m.
Police said the child was hit by a silver sedan traveling south of Prospect Avenue. The driver involved fled the scene after the collision.
The child was seriously injured and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
