KANSAS CITY, MO - One person was killed and another injured in an accident on a Kansas City highway Wednesday, police said.
KSHB reported three vehicles were involved in the incident on U.S. 71 Highway northbound near Bannister Road shortly after 4 p.m.
Investigators determined that a man driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV was going north at a high rate of speed. The SUV sideswiped a GMC Yukon next to it that was stopped in heavy traffic. The Trailblazer then rear-ended a Jaguar XF that was stopped in front of the Yukon.
The Trailblazer rolled over and the driver was ejected, suffering fatal injuries. Police said the victim was not wearing his seat belt. A child who was in the car seat of the Chevy was hospitalized in stable condition. The drivers of the other two vehicles refused medical attention.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 71 were shut down for about two and a half hours for the crash investigation.
