KANSAS CITY, MO - Police said a pedestrian was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver in Kansas City on Monday morning, KSHB reports.

Police and rescue crews responded to the area of Topping Avenue and East 23rd Street after the incident happened sometime before 6:44 a.m.  Investigators determined that a person wrapped in a blanket was walking west on 23rd Street and either fell down or lay down.

At that point, the pedestrian was struck by a gray Ford F-150 pickup heading west.  The driver did not stop after the crash, according to police.

The victim was taken to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.  Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
