KANSAS CITY, MO - A fleeing driver caused a crash in Kansas City last Thursday night that left a woman dead, police said.

According to the Kansas City Star, the initial accident happened at 19th Street and Baltimore Avenue, where the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe fled the scene at high speed after hitting a Subaru Outback at about 11:47 p.m.

The Outback driver called 911 and then started to follow the Tahoe.  As the Tahoe driver continued heading east, the vehicle crashed into a PT Cruiser at Truman Road and Main Street.  The Cruiser then spun around and collided with a northbound Jeep Wrangler.  The driver of the Tahoe left the scene of that crash as well, police said.

The Tahoe driver, a woman, died of injuries suffered in the wreck.  A passenger in her vehicle and another passenger in the Jeep were hospitalized and listed in stable condition.

Police said the death was the 55th crash related fatality of the year in Kansas City, up from 43 at this time in 2021.
