A trip and fall victim on shoddy carpet at an United States Post Office located in Independence, Missouri leads to victim settling for $90,000.00. Our client tripped on some carpet that multiple other people had tripped on that same day settled her case with the government before a lawsuit was filed. Because the government owned the property where our client tripped, we made a claim under the Federal Torts Claim Act or FTCA against the post office. Typically, in Missouri, you have five years to file a lawsuit for a personal injury claim. However, because the government was involved, the much shorter two years statute of limitations applied and our client made a claim just within the two year window to make such claim. After multiple negotiations, the government settled with our client. Our client was thrilled with the result.
